LEAD ENGINEER: WATER PROCESSING AND/OR WASTEWATER TREATMENT DESIGN, PRETORIA-GAUTENG

Reporting directly to the Executive Manager: Water and Sanitation – Inland Provinces

QUALIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATION

  • Recognised Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Master’s degree in civil engineering will be advantageous.
  • Relevant Post Graduate training in Wastewater/water treatment will be advantageous.
  • Registered as a Pr Eng with ECSA.
  • Experience as set out below, in a private consulting practice in SA.
  • Additional qualifications/memberships which will be advantageous:
    i.  Working knowledge of GCC, FIDIC, NEC and JBCC
    ii.  Active member in CESA/SAICE/WISA/AWWA
    iii. Pr CPM. and/or PMP

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 10-15 years of experience in design of water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Marketing of consulting work on water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the planning, process design, and engineering design and operation of municipal water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of operational processes in the consulting environment in SA.
  • Ability to carry out design work for all civil engineering and process elements of water and or/wastewater treatment plants independently and without supervision.
  • Experience in the use of Conditions of Contract relevant to the nature of work (NEC, FIDIC, JBCC and/or GCC contracts) is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in leading a team of design engineers and successful project implementation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write project reports, technical and cost proposals/tender documents independently and without supervision.
  • Excellent leadership skills and deadline driven.
  • Knowledge of client base in the water services field in RSA.
  • International experience in other African countries would be an advantage.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Head/lead the water/wastewater treatment section within the water and sanitation division.
  • Active marketing of the service with clients, prepare and submit proposals and tender documents.
  • Write and present proposals to government, public interest groups, or community group.
  • Manage the execution of planning, design and supervision of projects in this field.
  • Work with other specialists to augment skills and capacity.
  • Independently manage projects to monitor performance and ensure financial success.
  • Perform research and write technical papers for publication or presentation at industry related conferences.
  • Participate in professional organizations for marketing, industry recognition and networking.
  • Client liaison, including meetings and reporting.
  • Keep abreast with technology development and research in the relevant fields of Water & Sanitation.
  • Lead, challenge, and inspire technical staff (including coaching/mentoring young professionals/graduate engineers, technologists and technicians through substantive engagement and communication.
  • Compliance with and managing direct reports compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (ISO9001:2015) Business Management System (BMS) and the Project Management Online Guide (PMOG).
