Mariswe (Pty) Ltd is a South African based project management, infrastructure planning and consulting engineering practice with more than 50 years of experience. In January 2019, following significant changes in ownership and the acquisition of three majority black owned companies over a nine-year period, UWP Consulting changed its name to Mariswe to announce these changes to clients and the public.
Mariswe prides itself on the teamwork within and between its four self-sufficient regional operations spread across eight offices in South Africa. Our presence across provinces means we are particularly well-placed to service national, provincial and, most importantly, municipal government.
More than 35% of Mariswe’s revenue is currently generated outside South Africa and successful subsidiary firms have been formed in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia and Ghana. Projects have also been completed recently in Liberia, Uganda, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone. A new branch of the South African business has recently opened in Lesotho.
With a strong core of successful projects, the company has built a proud tradition of excellence in providing engineering solutions with integrity across sub-Saharan Africa. Mariswe takes this reputation forward with a focus on improving people’s lives in everything we do.
The company employs 60 people in offices in Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Lesotho. In addition to significant assignments in these countries, the company has completed or is working on projects in Mozambique, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, and most recently Uganda and Liberia.
Mariswe is 100% employee owned and 56% of its employees either own shares or are direct shareholding beneficiaries. It is more than 55% black owned, almost 30% women owned, and 24% black women owned.
Abaqeshwa, an entity wholly owned by black employees, holds 25% of Mariswe’s shares. An additional 30% of our shares have been acquired individually by black management and black professionals within the company.
