Project Detail
To meet future demand in the Nebo Plateau area, including expansion of the town of Jane Furse, a bulk water supply (BWS) scheme was designed to be implemented over several years. The source of supply is the new De Hoop Dam on the Steelpoort River.
The 25 Ml command reservoir at Jane Furse required for the BWS is a circular reinforced concrete tank with prestressed walls covered by a flat concrete roof supported on columns. Creating a uniform foundation on bedrock was challenging, requiring excavation of 17 000 m³ of material including boulders and blasting of 8 000 m³ of hard rock. A subsurface fountain and watercourse had to be bridged by a reinforced concrete beam beneath the floor slabs. The tank has a radius of 28 m and a full supply depth of 11 m.
