Project Detail
The project involved construction of a 33 km second carriageway between the Marikana and R512 Brits West interchanges.
Construction was carried out in four sections:
- From km 224.0 near the Sun City interchange to km 234.1 near the P160 overpass (approximately 9.9 km);
- From km 212.0 near the Mooinooi interchange to km 224.0 near the Sun City interchange (approximately 12.0 km);
- From km 205.4 near the Buffelspoort interchange to km 212.0 near the Mooinooi interchange (6.6 km, including the semi-permanent tie-in taper section to the existing westbound carriageway at the Buffelspoort interchange).
- From km 234.1 near the P160 overpass to km 238.2 at the Brits West interchange (approximately 3.5 km, including the tie-in taper section to the existing westbound carriageway at the Brits West interchange).
The project included the extension of all interchange bridges and construction of new bridges and large box culverts for stream and river crossings.
