Project Detail

The Zeekoegat pipeline is part of the Wallmannsthal system, which includes a water treatment works and a network of pipes and reservoirs to the north of Tshwane.

The pipeline from the Wallmannsthal Reservoir to the SA Police Service Dog School on the northern bank of the Pienaars River was urgently in need of upgrading due to an increase in demand in the area.

The original 200 mm and 250 mm nominal diameter (ND) asbestos cement (A/C) piping was replaced entirely by a new pipeline about 7.2 km long, consisting of 350mm and 300 mm ND Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) piping.

The design allowed for the gravity line to become a pumped line in the future.

Narrow servitudes in certain areas made it impossible to place the new GRP pipe parallel to the existing A/C pipe.  In these areas temporary bypass systems were installed to continue water supply while the A/C pipe was removed and the new GRP pipe installed.
