Mariswe was appointed to manage the construction of mining and civil infrastructure for the greenfield mining development.
- Plant earthworks and services: 650 000 m³ of earthworks over 14 ha; a 1 150 m² reinforced earth wall using panels fabricated on site; water, sewer, and electrical services; a 30 km x 30 m wide cleared strip for the power line feeding the plant; terraces for the substation and standby power plant.
- Civil infrastructure: New 12 km access road; realignment of 3.1 km of public road around the open pit; terraces and access for the housing relocation project.
- Tailings storage facility: Base preparation and HDPE lining of 80 ha TSF basin, together with 3 km of ground water drainage beneath the liner and 6 km of collector and finger drains above it. The 1 500 000 m³ earthworks included 380 000 m³ of embankments, spillways and downstream sediment control dams.
The flexibility of Mariswe’s ICU contract enabled seamless management of the fast track project despite heavy rain, dense vegetation and poor in-situ materials.
The ICU Lite short form contract was adapted for small local contractors.
