Project Detail

This project formed part of the National Public Transport Action Plan in 12 South African cities. It aimed to provide high quality, affordable public transport systems operating on dedicated routes connected with existing systems of buses and mini-bus taxis.

Mariswe, in Joint Venture with SMEC and Phatwe, was awarded the tender for two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors over 34 km overlapping in the Rustenburg CBD, with 37 proposed stations. The JV completed a 4 km fast track section between the Rustenburg CBD and Phokeng Town of the Royal Bafokeng within eight months from appointment to construction award to secure funding.

Video technology was used in the planning, design and construction phases to assist with accurate on-site details.  This allowed detail planning and design sessions to be held off-site with all role players present.
