MARISWE Wins 2025 CESA Aon Awards: Job Shadow Initiative

Mariswe’s 2025 Job Shadow was a resounding success (once again) delivered by Mariswe staff in a structured and engaging manner, providing guidance and information needed by high school STEM learners interested in embarking on the varied and diverse career opportunities in the industry. Our four Regional Job Shadow teams and Young Professionals (YPFs) engaged with 5 Schools and 802 learners (+2 050 at Career Days), under the theme: ‘A Day in the Life of a Civil Engineer’.

By incorporating interactive sessions, quiz-based engagements, and detailed project site tours, the events delivered on their objective of inspiring and informing potential future engineers. Mariswe is grateful to CESA for this initiative and for the opportunity to contribute to the future of civil engineering in South Africa.

This year, 16 companies participated in the competition. The winners were as follows:

Winner: Mariswe
1st Runner-Up: Knight Piésold
2nd Runner-Up: Zutari
3rd Runner-Up: Merchelles Collective

Well done, Team Mariswe, for once again coming out on top against strong competition!

Job Shadow Poster 2025

Our nautical poster theme was inspired by one of the practical tasks given to learner groups by Mariswe Bryanston, where learners were challenged to build a hydraulic bridge capable of opening for shipments to pass through. The project required using the engineering principles around concept, preliminary and detailed design stages, and construction. A student representative presented the model together with feedback on their design process, challenges faced, and lessons learned. Their hydraulic bridge was assessed on materials used, ease of operation and its ability to open.
